The VKVideo app is an online streaming service created by the Russian state-affiliated company VK.
Designed primarily to replace YouTube, which Russian authorities are trying to throttle within the Russian Federation. Because competing even with a throttled YouTube is extremely difficult for VKVideo, Russian authorities have permitted the hosting of virtually any infringing content, most notably all feature films from Hollywood studios (Disney, Sony, Warner Bros, Paramount, etc.) and series from all US streaming services (Amazon, Netflix, HBO, Apple TV+, Paramount+, etc.).

- The app is available on the alternative store RuStore (which can be downloaded from Google Play anywhere in the world):
- The app is available on the alternative store Samsung Galaxy Store. This store comes pre-installed on all Samsung phones—one of the most popular Android-based smartphones (accounting for up to 30% of all Android phones globally):
- The app is available on the alternative store Xiaomi GetApps (GetApps is among the largest alternative app stores in the world, with roughly 30 million daily installations, and comes standard pre-installed on Xiaomi phones, which are popular in Russia).
Once the app is installed on a phone, it provides free access to the entire catalog of Hollywood content. In Russia, access to this content is available immediately without any additional configuration. Since the app relies heavily on access to US-produced infringing content for its growth, it detects the device's location and hides the infringing content when accessed from the US; however, this can easily be bypassed using a VPN service.
